How hard is it to play Piano Man by Billy Joel?
Friday, May 22nd, 2009I don't actually play piano, but I kind of decided to pick it up(self taught not lessons). I have a pretty good grasp of music and just started learning Piano Man today. Anyways, it doesn't seem all that difficult, although when I add in the harmonica melody on piano while playing the chords it gets quite a bit more difficult for me. Anyways, I haven't gotten around to the solo yet and haven't really perfected that much of the song. How hard do you think it will be for me to learn, seeing as I don't play piano?
If you're wondering how I have a 'grasp of music' it's because I've played guitar for a while (I also picked that up without lessons). So my music theory and sheet music knowledge isn't extensive, but I do have the basics down and I can read sheet music. Right now I'm learning from youtube videos and by ear.
Try not to say that it's too easy if you're some expertly trained classical pianist, I'm just a 16 year old trying to learn something new
.
I'm kind of hoping I can have it down before winter break's over, which is sometime in the first week of January. Is that a realistic goal? Thanks.
You should look around for an "arrangement" of piano man. A lot of piano stores will carry books filled with popular music for all skill levels. I would recommend you pay one a visit and pick up a book to see if it seems within your skill level. Obviously, I don't quite know your skill level, but an intermediate level music book should do you a lot of good.
Two weeks or so is a little short, but if you're dedicated you should get it down.
Good luck and have fun!
